MCX & NCDEX are two India-based online commodity exchanges in Indian commodity market which takes place on all days of the week except Saturdays and Sundays and the holidays declared by the exchanges. Generally, trades trade in commodities through Futures contracts. It is the oldest way of investing in commodities.
The Multi-Commodity Exchange of India Limited (MCX) is India’s first commodity derivatives exchange that provides the facility of online commodity trading, and clearing and settlement of commodity derivatives transactions. It is renowned as the first platform to provide commodity derivatives contracts across a wide range of commodities including bullion, industrial & base metals, energy, and agriculture. One can trade in several commodities through Futures contract as per the commodity trading hours.
The National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) is another India-based multi-commodity exchange which also regulated by Securities & Exchange Board of India (SEBI), is a nation-level, online commodity exchange which incorporated on April 23, 2003, under the Companies Act, 1956.
MCX& NCDEX operates five times a week, i.e., Monday – Friday, where traders can trade commodities but on other days – Saturdays and Sundays, the market remained closed. Like we said earlier, there are other holidays when the market is closed, announced by the respective exchanges as per the calendar year. There are public holidays which will clash with weekends (Saturday and Sunday):
- Republic Day: Saturday, January 26, 2019
- Ram Navami: Saturday, April 3, 2019
- Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti: Sunday, April 14, 2019
- Diwali-LaxmiPujan: Sunday, October 27, 2019
Timings of Trading in Commodity Market – MCX & NCDEX Revised Timing
Last week, in a circular no: MCX/TRD/537/2018, it was announced that trading hours for commodity derivatives segment in Indian commodity market will be changed from December 31, 2018.
The revised timing is as follows:
Note: – The Muhurat Trading Timing for 2019 shall be notified by the Exchange subsequently.
Trading timing for evening session will be as follows:
- Non-Agri Commodities: 5:00 PM to 11:30 / 11:55 PM
- Internationally Referencable Commodities: 5:00 PM to 09:00 PM
- No trading in all other Agri commodities on such days
