Union Budget 2019: Yesterday, the Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat launched the water conservation the campaign called ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’ giving importance on 1592 stressed blocks in 256 districts. Under this campaign, the government will focus on five aspects –
- Water conservation
- Rainwater harvesting
- Renovation of traditional and other water bodies
- Reuse of water and recharging of structures
- Watershed development
- Intensive afforestation
In this campaign, several initiatives will be taken like ‘Krishi Vigyan Kendra Melas’ to promote efficient use of water for irrigation and better crop choices. However, in urban areas, plans with time-bound targets will be developed to reuse the wastewater for industrial and agricultural purposes.
According to Jal Shakti Minister, ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’ is people’s movement on the water conservation and will only succeed as a people’s movement. Many people are setting eyes on the Union Budget 2019 to see some special targets or new budget for the ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’ but according to Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat there will be new budget or targets for this campaign since there was plenty of money already allocated for existing schemes under the Central and State budgets. So, no special budget allocation!
As of now, the campaign is to increase awareness over the next two and a half months where it will address 256 water-stressed districts.
