The actor-turned-politician Urmila Matondkar who was contesting the national elections for Congress party for Mumbai constituency felt threaten when a fight broke out between Congress and BJP supporters at a coastal suburb in Mumbai today.
Due to this, the Congress contestant for Mumbai constituency – Urmila Matondkar frightened and seek out the Police protection.
According to sources, Ms. Matondkar filed a Police complaint and said,
“They are doing this to create fear. It’s just the beginning and may take a violent turn. I have asked for police protection as there’s a threat to my life.”
“Ms. Matondkar has been extended protection until the elections are over,” said Sangramsinh Nishandar (Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone, XI)
He also added that there was no proof that those involved in the fight were BJP supporters but commuters.
This incident happened when Ms. Urmila Matondkar was campaigning outside Borivali railway station; suddenly some people started shouting “Modi, Modi” and confronted the Congress workers.
As a result, the thing turned into a fight between two groups. Ms. Matondkar told that they were peacefully addressing people and from nowhere 15-20 people came and started shouted slogans. She didn’t react to it.
But suddenly it became vulgar and people started using abusive language and then the fight broke out.
On this, the BJP appointed Gopal Shetty in North Mumbai constituency also claimed that those people weren’t BJP workers but only commuters who support Modi.
