Today, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty index opened on a negative note at the level of 10,982.70 from the previous closing level of 11,008.30. However, after the opening, it plunged and trading below 11,000 levels near 10,870.55 (2:52 PM IST).
Auto shares were in focus on today, with the Nifty Auto index slipping 1.5 percent in intraday trade led by falls in shares of Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Eicher Motors etc.
Eicher Motors hit a 52-week low of Rs 23,072.75, down 6.8 percent in intraday trade. Royal Enfield sales also climbed 2 percent at 71,662 units versus 70,431 units. Maruti Suzuki also hit a near 52-week low of Rs 7,211.15 in intraday, slipping 3.4 percent just after the company recalled super Carry vehicles to inspect for a possible defect in fuel pump assembly.
