The National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty50 index which opened at 11,271.70 at positive note closed on a lower note at 11,157.00, 65.05 points up. Nifty maintained it's opening gain throughout the morning session but plunged in the last hours of the day.
The index wiped out all gains due to fall in the metal stocks which slipped 2 percent followed by auto, infra, pharma, FMCG, and bank.
On the other hand, the Bank Nifty index closed at 28,616.45, down 212.75 points down on yesterday.
Global Update: Even as economic data disappointed investors, the major indices of Wall Street's closed on a positive note due to reports that US President Donald Trump would hold off on imposing tariffs on imported cars and parts.
Taking cues from previous trading session, it is expected to see a flat opening in today's trading session.
