Two notices have been issued in July and August to 2 mines for sludge treatment plant and water sprinkling systems, among other things. These notices have issued by the pollution regulator for the central Indian state of Odisha to Coal India mines for non-compliance on environmental norms.
These mines have a combined capacity of 20 million tonnes. The reason behind this is –
- The sludge treatment plant in one of the mines was found to be non-functioning.
- The water sprinkling systems which use to keep dust under control were
Not just that the Odisha state pollution control board also alleged that a coal-fire was observed in one of the mines and the existing firefighting measures were inadequate.
On this, the Coal India stated that the issues had either been rectified or were in the process of being rectified.
