The United States has issued a cautionary notice to the countries that it will consider possible sanctions in case they carry out any kind of the business relations with Iran post November 4.
“Make no mistake about it, come November 4 (and) there will be a fundamentally different set of rules with respect to anyone who deems it necessary to engage in economic activities with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said.
This announcement by the United States will have major economic implications, particularly for India as it is one of the biggest importers of the Iranian oil. India is also playing a key role in the construction of the Chabahar Port in Iran.
After the press conference, a meeting between Mike Pompeo and Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor, India took place to discuss the issues. India is hoping to get some waiver from the U.S because constant supply of the oil is extremely necessary to keep pace with its energy needs. Also, the Chabahar Port holds a great strategic importance for India.
